1st-6th Grade Faith Formation

Curriculum: Ignatius Press' Faith & Life Series (1st-5th) and "Encounter" (6th)

1st Grade Theme: Introduction to the Holy Trinity through presentations on God the Father, the life of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, God's plan of salvation and our part in that plan. Acquaints children with Mary, angels, and the saints. Children learn basic prayers.

2nd Grade Theme: Preparation for the first reception of the sacraments of Penance and Holy Communion, with the law of God and salvation history as background. The lesson emphasizes God's mercy and love. Covers Creation, the Covenant with Moses, the Ten Commandments, Redemption, Forgiveness of Sins, and the Mass.

2nd Grade – Family Formation Sacramental Prep This is a very important Sacramental year and parent involvement in the education of the children is required for the formation of their children.  Students will meet weekly in their classes and also have once a month lesson that corresponds with the Family Lessons that are to be done at home.  Instructions on at home lessons will be given at parent meetings.  Parents will also participate in our God in the Family Program.  This is a 6 week book study on the Sacraments of the Church.  Groups will meeting in homes one night a week during the months of October and November.

3rd Grade Theme: God's plan of salvation, from creation to the Incarnation and Redemption to the birth of the Church at Pentecost and our life in the Church. Special emphasis on the importance of Confession, Communion and the Mass.

4th Grade Theme: God's plan to save his people from sin (Salvation History), how we participate in that plan, and the many ways God helps us in our pilgrimage on earth to Heaven through his word, his law, and his Church.

5th Grade Theme: A thorough study of the articles of the Creed as the basic belief
of our Catholic faith, with a special emphasis on careful understanding of definitions through the words of the Gospels, and the prophets, and the prayers of the Church.

6th Grade Theme: "Encounter" Middle School Bible Study uses the color-coded Bible Timeline learning system to reveal the story of the faith. Students will gain a new understanding of who God is and will see him as a loving Father who desires a lasting encounter with them.  This video series provides a compelling overview and explanation of the entire Bible story. It is a life-changing experience that speaks directly to the hearts and minds of middle-school aged kids.  As your students are drawn into this story, they will come to a new and profound understanding of who God is.

Class Time: Wednesday afternoons 3:55-5:15pm (1st-5th) and 6:00-7:15pm (1st-6th), during school year
